Rainy Sunday Taiwanese brunch at Isshin Machi!
Spicy chao shou wontons, Taiwanese beef noodles, lu rou fan and a tall glass of brown sugar boba at Isshin Machi (East Coast Road) — a comforting rainy Sunday brunch. $33.99 for two.
Another rainy weekend, another excuse to eat. Headed over to Isshin Machi (一心一町) at East Coast Road for some proper Taiwanese comfort food. 🌧️
Ordered four to share:
- Hong you chao shou (红油抄手) — plump pork wontons drowned in a glossy chilli oil with scallions and chilli flakes on top. Numbing, spicy, addictive.
- Beef noodle soup (牛肉面) — thin noodles in a deep red braised broth, with big tender chunks of beef and scallions. The broth had that proper slow-cooked depth.
- Lu rou fan (滷肉饭) — bowl of rice topped with chopped braised pork belly, a soy-stained braised egg, cucumber slices and pickled mustard greens on the side. Classic.
- Brown sugar boba milk tea — caramelised brown sugar streaks running down the glass, plenty of QQ pearls. Couldn’t resist.
Total: $33.99 for the two of us. Solid value for a four-dish brunch.
Overall: 4 / 5. Hit every craving — spicy, savoury, sweet. Perfect rainy Sunday food. 😋👍🏼
