Ippudo!
Revisit to Ippudo at The Star Vista: the Akamaru Shinaji and Shiromaru Motoaji tonkotsu ramen ($12.90++ each), caught on a 2-flavour promo. So yummy we finished it all.
Happy Deepavali to all! And it happened to be the 1st anniversary of Ippudo at The Star Vista, with a promotion running for two ramen flavours, so a revisit after many years! 😋
Ippudo is the famous Japanese ramen chain from Fukuoka, the home of tonkotsu (豚骨), the creamy pork-bone broth boiled for hours until it turns rich and milky. Ippudo’s two signature bowls are the benchmark most ramen lovers know.
Akamaru Shinaji ($12.90++), the “red” bowl: the original tonkotsu base finished with Ippudo’s special umami dama (a miso-and-garlic-oil blend) and fragrant garlic oil, which deepens and rounds the broth. So yummy that we finished up everything, broth included!

Shiromaru Motoaji ($12.90++), the “white” bowl: the classic original tonkotsu, the purer expression of the pork broth with thin Hakata-style noodles, extra seasoning like garlic oil on the side. We didn’t quite manage to finish this one (two rich bowls is a lot of tonkotsu).

Between the two, the Akamaru’s garlic-oil-and-miso depth was the more moreish of the pair, the one we cleaned out. The overall rating was not too bad, and we can consider a revisit, especially with a promo on.

Overall: 4.3 / 5. 😋👍🏼 The Akamaru Shinaji’s garlic-oil tonkotsu was the standout, finished to the last drop. Would re-visit.
