A tasty noodle lunch with BB: char siew (with extra char siew) Hakka noodles, $5.50 each. ๐
What we had ($11 for two):
- Hakka noodles: flat noodles tossed in a savoury sauce, topped with a double helping of char siew, minced pork, cucumber and spring onion, with a clear soup on the side
We both went for the double char siew upgrade, and it was worth it. The char siew here was lovely: slices of roast pork with that sweet, caramelised, lacquered glaze and charred edges, and getting an extra portion meant plenty of it crowning the bowl.
The base is the Hakka-style noodles, flat egg noodles tossed dry in a savoury sauce so each strand is glossy and full of flavour, with a scatter of minced pork adding little savoury bites throughout. Slices of cool cucumber and fresh spring onion keep it from feeling heavy, and there is a bowl of clear soup on the side for slurping between mouthfuls. A spoon of the chilli sauce stirred in gives it a kick.
Mix it all up so the sauce coats everything, and you get springy noodles, sweet roast pork and savoury mince in every forkful. Comforting, generous and full of flavour. At $5.50 with the extra char siew, fair value.
Overall: 4.6 / 5. ๐๐๐ผ Springy Hakka noodles loaded with sweet caramelised char siew and savoury mince. Would re-order.
