What we had:
- Two tall glasses of Hoegaarden, the Belgian witbier
After a meal, this is exactly the beer I reach for. Hoegaarden is a Belgian wheat beer (witbier), and you can spot it instantly by the cloudy, hazy pale-gold pour, thatβs the unfiltered wheat doing its thing. It is brewed with coriander and orange peel, which gives it a soft, gently citrusy, lightly spiced character.
It drinks easy: light-bodied, smooth and barely bitter, refreshing rather than heavy, so it goes down beautifully when you are full from dinner and just want something cool and pleasant to sip. The faint orange note keeps it bright, and it never feels like hard work the way a big hoppy or roasty beer can.
Sitting back with two frosty glasses of it to close out the evening was just the ticket. It is one of those approachable, crowd-pleasing beers that suits almost any mood, and on a warm night it really hits the spot.
Overall: 4.6 / 5. πππΌ Cloudy, light and citrusy, an easy-drinking witbier to wind down with. Would re-order.
