A bowl of sliced fish thick bee hoon soup in Kaki Bukit, $5.80. ๐ŸŸ๐Ÿ˜‹

What we had ($5.80):

This one is the clear kind of fish soup, without the evaporated milk that some stalls stir in. That makes it a lighter, cleaner bowl, the sort of thing you want when you do not feel like anything heavy.

The broth was clear and gently sweet from the fish, lightly peppery, and not oily at all. It was good enough to drink to the bottom.

The sliced fish was the main event: thick, fresh slices, some with the skin still on, poached just until they turned opaque, so they stayed soft and flaky instead of going tough. There was a good amount of it for the price.

Underneath were thick bee hoon, round and slippery, the noodle that works best with a soup like this because it holds onto the broth. A few big leaves of lettuce went in for greens, along with a golden, crispy topping that slowly softened into the soup.

At $5.80 this is a fair price for a bowl with this much fish, and it is the kind of everyday lunch that does not get old.

Overall: 4.1 / 5. ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ Clear, clean broth, fresh soft fish and slippery thick bee hoon. Simple and satisfying.
