Beef hor fun + prawn rolls at a Geylang tze char with BB ($12 + $10)!
Date-night tze char dinner with BB at a Geylang spot — black bean beef hor fun ($12) and crispy fried prawn rolls cut into cubes ($10). Generous portions, hawker-restaurant pricing.
Tuesday night tze char run with BB to a Geylang spot known for their classic Cantonese-style noodles. Went for two of their signatures. 😋
What we ordered ($22 total):
- Beef hor fun in black bean sauce ($12) — silky flat rice noodles drenched in deep dark gravy, with slices of tender beef stir-fried with garlic and fermented black beans. The wok hei was strong — that proper restaurant-grade smokiness you can smell from two tables away.
- Prawn rolls ($10) — crispy golden ngoh hiang-style rolls cut into bite-sized cubes, served on a bed of pickled cucumber and carrot ribbons. With a small side dish of pickled green chillies for the tang.
The beef hor fun was the standout — the gravy clung to every strand, the beef was tender (not chewy like some hawker versions), and the black bean fragrance was unmistakable. Prawn rolls were addictive — crispy crust, prawn-filled centre.
Total: $22 for the two plates.
Overall: 4.5 / 5. Honest tze char done with proper wok hei — exactly what a date-night Geylang dinner should be. Reasonable prices, generous portions, no fuss. Will be back. 😍👍🏼
