Crayfish prawn hor fun at a Chinatown hawker ($10)!
Crayfish + prawn hor fun at a Chinatown hawker stall — flat rice noodles in dark savoury gravy with split crayfish halves, plump prawns, choy sum and pork lard. $10.
Treated myself to a fancier hawker lunch at a Chinatown stall — went for the crayfish prawn hor fun at $10. Worth every cent. 😍
What was on the plate ($10):
- A bed of smooth flat hor fun (rice noodles) soaking up that signature dark sweet-savoury gravy — slightly starchy, glossy, perfectly seasoned with wok hei coming through.
- Two whole crayfish halves — split lengthwise, shells split open to reveal the sweet white flesh inside. So much flavour from the head.
- A few plump prawns sitting right in the centre — fresh, snappy, slightly sweet.
- Crispy pork lard bits scattered through the gravy for that extra crunchy-fatty bite.
- Choy sum stems for the green.
- Side bowl of bright red chilli sauce for the dipping.
Used the chilli for the crayfish, drowned the hor fun in the gravy. Slurped the whole plate.
Total: $10. Hawker pricing for a restaurant-tier seafood plate.
Overall: 4.3 / 5. The gravy was on point — properly thick, not over-sweet, with the wok hei coming through. Crayfish + prawn combo gave that double seafood hit. Will come back. 😋👍🏼
