Last Saturday's dinner with BB ($67.10)!
Saturday date-night dinner with BB — premium charred char siew, kimchi jjigae stew, craft beer and a whiskey shot. $67.10 for the meal.
Throwback to last Saturday’s date-night dinner with BB. We went for a modern restaurant doing East-meets-East dishes — char siew on one plate, kimchi stew on another, drinks alongside. 😋
What we ordered ($67.10 total):
- A thick slab of premium char siew — properly caramelised dark exterior, glistening with glaze, sliced to show the rosy pink centre. Sweet, smoky, just a hint of fat at the edge.
- A bubbling stone bowl of kimchi jjigae — fiery red broth, soft tofu cubes, a generous sprinkle of green onions and toasted sesame on top. The kind of stew you eat straight out of the pot.
- A pint of craft beer on tap — light gold, fizzy, refreshing.
- A small whiskey shot glass with ice on the side — for BB.
Char siew was the standout — that lacquered exterior had the sweet-savoury depth you can only get from proper roasting. Kimchi stew brought the heat and the comfort.
Total: $67.10. Date-night pricing — not cheap but reasonable for two with drinks.
Overall: 3.8 / 5. Char siew was great, stew was solid, but the combination felt a bit mismatched and the bill felt a touch on the higher side for what we got. Good but not destination-worthy. 👍🏼
