Saturday's prawn mee brunch with BB at a Kallang hawker ($9)!
Saturday brunch with BB at a Kallang prawn mee stall — dark prawn broth, yellow noodles, prawns, pork slices, fish cake and a side of crispy ngoh hiang (prawn rolls). $9.
Lazy Saturday brunch with BB — drove down to a Kallang hawker stall known for their prawn mee. Old-school dark broth, the kind that smells like the wok the moment you sit down. 😋
What we ordered (around $9):
- Two bowls of prawn mee soup — yellow noodles in a deep, dark prawn broth. Concentrated, slightly sweet, that distinct umami from hours of simmered prawn shells and pork bones.
- Toppings in each bowl: whole prawns (head still on for the slurpable juices), slices of tender lean pork, pieces of fish cake, and a generous dusting of fried shallots on top.
- A side plate of ngoh hiang / prawn rolls — golden brown, sliced into pieces, served with a small dish of sweet chilli sauce for dipping.
The broth was the star — dark, fragrant, and properly umami. You could tell it was cooked down for hours. The prawn rolls were crispy on the outside with a savoury minced filling inside.
Total: ~$9. Hawker pricing for a proper Saturday treat.
Overall: 4.2 / 5. Old-school prawn mee done right, and the side of ngoh hiang elevated it from regular hawker meal to weekend brunch. Will be back with BB. 😍👍🏼
