Sunday brunch — seafood mee pok at a hawker stall ($4 each)!
Sunday brunch with BB at a hawker mee pok stall — dry flat yellow noodles with prawns, sliced fish, squid, fish balls, fried garlic and chilli; side bowls of clear soup. $4 each.
Lazy Sunday brunch with BB — easy hawker run for dry seafood mee pok. Two bowls, $4 each, double the slurp. 😋
What was in each bowl ($4):
- Flat yellow mee pok tossed in the classic dark sweet-savoury sauce with a hint of chilli oil pooling at the bottom.
- A whole prawn sitting on top, head and shell on for the flavour.
- Slices of fresh fish — clean, white, mildly sweet.
- Pieces of sliced squid (sotong) curled up neatly.
- A few bouncy fish balls tucked in.
- A generous scatter of fried garlic bits and chopped spring onions for that aromatic finish.
- A side bowl of clear soup — clean, peppery, with floating scallions.
The seafood was the highlight — properly fresh, not over-cooked, and the variety made each spoonful different.
Total: $4 each. Hawker pricing magic on Sunday.
Overall: 4.3 / 5. Dry mee pok done right, with the seafood actually tasting like seafood and not filler. A solid weekend pick. 😍👍🏼
