Teriyaki chicken noodles takeaway at a Chinatown hawker ($5)!
Dry hawker noodles with teriyaki chicken takeaway in Chinatown — yellow mee, glazed teriyaki chicken pieces, sambal chilli and blanched choy sum. $5.
Office lunch takeaway from a Chinatown hawker stall — went for the teriyaki chicken noodles for a change from the usual char siew. $5 in a box. 😋
What was in the takeaway box ($5):
- A generous portion of springy yellow noodles dressed lightly in oil and sauce.
- A spoonful of fragrant red sambal chilli on the side — packed with shrimp paste and dried chilli depth.
- A pile of teriyaki chicken pieces — soya-glazed, slightly charred at the edges, glistening from the sweet-savoury sauce.
- A side of blanched choy sum for the green.
Mixed everything together with the chilli — the teriyaki sweetness balanced the sambal heat in a really nice way. Different from the usual hawker noodle experience.
Total: $5. Hawker-priced lunch with the protein already included.
Overall: 4.1 / 5. Fusion done well — the teriyaki chicken was tender and not over-glazed, sambal added the local kick, and the noodles travelled well in the box. Will reorder. 😍👍🏼
