Cereal fried rice at a hawker stall ($6)!
Modern hawker bowl — cereal fried rice with crispy cereal flakes, scrambled egg, crab stick, onsen egg and scallions. $6.
Modern hawker lunch — cereal fried rice at $6. The cereal prawn dish that became a fried rice. 😋
What was in the stone bowl ($6):
- A base of fragrant wok-fried rice with bits of scrambled egg, chopped scallions and small pieces of red crab stick scattered through.
- Crowned with a generous mountain of crispy cereal flakes — the kind seasoned with curry leaves, butter and chilli, just like cereal prawn but as the topping star.
- A half-boiled onsen egg tucked at the side — runny yolk waiting to be broken.
- A dusting of dried parsley for the green pop.
Cracked the egg, mixed it into the rice with the cereal — the yolk turned the cereal into a clumpy crunchy-creamy mix that coated every grain.
Total: $6. Hawker-priced fusion bowl.
Overall: 4.5 / 5. The cereal topping was the genius move — crispy, buttery, chilli-fragrant. Combined with the onsen egg yolk it was outright addictive. Will reorder. 😍👍🏼
