Mee siam + mixed veg at a hawker stall ($3.50 + $1)!
Hawker mee siam with hard-boiled egg, fried beancurd cubes, calamansi and chilli; side of mixed veg curry. $3.50 + $1.
Tangy lunch fix โ mee siam + mixed veg at a hawker stall. $3.50 + $1. The kind of plate that wakes up the palate. ๐
What was on the tray ($4.50 total):
- A bowl of mee siam โ thin bee hoon swimming in that signature orange-red sweet-sour gravy infused with tamarind and fermented soya bean. Spicy, tangy, slightly sweet.
- Topped with a hard-boiled egg (whole), fried beancurd cubes (crispy on the outside, absorbent inside), and a dollop of dark sambal chilli on the side.
- A green calamansi (limau kasturi) for squeezing โ the brightness elevator.
- A bowl of mixed veg curry on the side ($1) โ pumpkin, long beans and tau pok in a light yellow curry. The perfect chaser.
Squeezed the calamansi over the mee siam, mixed everything, slurped. That tamarind tang is unmistakable.
Total: $4.50 for both.
Overall: 4.3 / 5. Mee siam gravy was properly tangy โ not muddied by too much chilli paste. The fried beancurd cubes soaked up the gravy beautifully. Honest Malay hawker stall meal. ๐๐๐ผ
