Nasi Lemak Set C at a hawker stall ($5.30)!
Nasi lemak Set C — coconut rice with sambal chilli, sunny-side-up egg, fried chicken wings, banana-leaf otah, ikan bilis, peanuts and cucumber. $5.30.
Big nasi lemak craving — went for the Set C at a hawker stall, $5.30. Plate came packed. 😋
What was on the plate ($5.30):
- A mound of fluffy coconut nasi lemak rice at the centre — fragrant, slightly oily, with that signature pandan and santan aroma.
- A scoop of sambal chilli — dark red, fragrant from belacan and dried prawns, with the right balance of sweet-spicy.
- A sunny-side-up egg with a properly runny yolk lying on top of the rice.
- Two crispy fried chicken wings at the corner — golden brown, crackly skin, juicy meat.
- An otah wrapped in banana leaf sealed with toothpicks at both ends — fish paste spiced with chilli and lemongrass, grilled.
- A small pile of fried ikan bilis with peanuts for the crunchy salty top notes.
- Slices of fresh cucumber for the cool side.
Cracked the yolk, mixed it into the rice with sambal, unwrapped the otah to dip into everything. Standard nasi lemak procedure.
Total: $5.30. Hawker pricing for a generous set.
Overall: 4.2 / 5. Sambal was the highlight — proper depth, real belacan fragrance. Chicken wings stayed crispy. Otah was a nice add-on but I’d order more sambal next time. 😍👍🏼
