Sunday's hawker brunch — white bee hoon, YTF, fried chicken!
Sunday brunch at a hawker centre — white bee hoon (san luo mian) with prawns and pork, bitter gourd YTF soup, har cheong gai (prawn paste chicken) and a plate of mixed fried YTF.
Lazy Sunday brunch at a hawker centre — went heavy with four plates to share. 😋
What was on the table:
- White bee hoon (san luo mian / 三捞面) — wok-fried bee hoon in a savoury white sauce with prawns, lean pork slices, scrambled egg, choy sum, fried garlic bits and tomato wedges. A calamansi tucked at the side for squeezing.
- A bowl of bitter gourd YTF soup — clear broth with stuffed bitter gourd (fish paste filling), stuffed napa cabbage, bean curd skin strips. Light, clean, slightly bitter from the gourd.
- A plate of har cheong gai (prawn paste chicken wings) — golden battered, fragrant with the signature fermented shrimp paste fragrance, served on a bed of bee hoon.
- A side plate of mixed fried YTF — ngoh hiang, fried beancurd, fried fishcake, fried tau pok pieces. Crispy variety for snacking through the meal.
Everyone got a bit of everything. The white bee hoon was the standout — proper wok hei.
Total: brunch-sized order, didn’t track but reasonable hawker pricing.
Overall: 4.2 / 5. Variety + quantity = right call for lazy Sunday. White bee hoon and the bitter gourd YTF soup were the highlights. 😍👍🏼
