Signature wanton mee (large) at a Jurong East hawker ($5)!
Large dry wanton mee with char siew, fried wanton, fried fish cake, pork lard and greens at a Jurong East hawker stall. $5, with a side bowl of clear wanton soup.
Weekday lunch at a Jurong East hawker stall that does wanton mee the proper old-school way β and the large size at $5 comes loaded. π
What was in the bowl:
- A generous nest of springy yellow noodles, dressed in that signature dark sweet sauce.
- Slices of char siew β caramelised edges, sweet and tender.
- Fried wanton pieces and crispy fried fish cake strips for texture.
- A scattering of crunchy pork lard cubes β those little gems of fried goodness that elevate any plate.
- Blanched choy sum for the green.
- A side bowl of clear wanton soup with a plump wanton bobbing inside.
The noodles were properly chewy β not soggy, not stuck together. The sauce was balanced β not too sweet, not too dark.
For $5 for a large bowl loaded like this, itβs hard to find better value.
Overall: 4.3 / 5. Honest hawker wanton mee, the kind you go back for. The fried fish cake was a nice addition I donβt always see. πππΌ
