酿豆腐 ($6.50)!
A bigger yong tau foo order: dry noodles in dark sauce with two soups of stuffed tofu, fishballs, okra, beancurd and greens. $6.50.
A hearty Monday dinner of 酿豆腐 (yong tau foo) for $6.50, going big on the selection. 😋
What we had:
- Dry noodles: yellow noodles tossed in a dark savoury sauce
- Two bowls of YTF soup: stuffed tofu, fishballs, okra, beancurd skin, fried items and leafy greens in a clear broth
This was a generous YTF order, the kind where you pile a dozen pieces onto the tray and split it dry-noodles-plus-soup. The dry noodles came glossed in a dark, savoury sauce, springy and well seasoned, the base you eat between spoonfuls of soup.
The two bowls of soup held the spread: soft stuffed tofu with its dollop of fish paste, bouncy fishballs, slices of okra (ladyfinger), beancurd skin, a few fried pieces and leafy greens, all in a clean, light broth that tastes faintly of anchovy. The variety is the fun of YTF, every piece a slightly different texture, and a good chilli or sweet sauce on the side lets you dress it to taste.
At $6.50 for this much it is a properly filling dinner, soup, noodles and a whole tray of stuffed bits. Comforting, customisable and good value.
Overall: 4.5 / 5. 😋👍🏼 A generous YTF spread with savoury dry noodles and a clean, varied soup. Would re-order.
