Saturday's brunch with Farmland nuggets!

Saturday brunch with BB — tried Farmland chicken nuggets today, the frozen-aisle alternative to the Freezepak nuggets we’ve been running for months. The lockdown habit of rotating through frozen-food brands to test which ones perform best continues.

Today’s plate:

Farmland is one of the Singapore frozen-food brands that’s been quietly competing with Freezepak in the chicken nuggets category. Both are local-made, both target the at-home convenience cooking market, but they have slightly different formulations.

The Farmland nuggets had a thicker breading coating than Freezepak — closer to the panko-style chunky breading rather than the finer flour-based coating. The chicken inside was a bit more pressed-and-shaped (less whole-piece texture), but the flavour profile was similar.

Air-fryer cycle was the standard 12 minutes at 180°C from frozen. Both brands respond well to the air fryer, but Farmland’s thicker coating actually crisps up slightly better because it has more surface area to brown.

Side-by-side I think we still prefer Freezepak (the whole-piece chicken texture is the differentiator) but Farmland is the perfectly adequate substitute when Freezepak is sold out.

Hot rice base was the standard fluffy jasmine. Fried egg was the M-style sunny-side. Stir-fried vegetables today were cabbage with garlic.

Chilli sauce on the side because Singapore meal rules.

Brand-rotation cooking is one of the lockdown habits we developed by necessity (Freezepak ran out of stock at the supermarket several times during peak lockdown panic-buying) and then kept up by curiosity. The Singapore frozen-food brand scene is more interesting than I’d given it credit for.

Overall: 4.3 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Solid Saturday brunch with Farmland — competent alternative.
