Sunday's brunch!

Sunday phase-2 brunch — home plate of rice, eggs and vegetables. Quiet weekend routine continuing through reopening.

Sunday's brunch!

Sunday brunch at home with BB — the routine had become genuinely comfortable. We weren’t fighting for novelty anymore; the consistency was the comfort.

Today’s plate:

The Sunday brunch format is the most steady-state meal of the week. By Sunday morning we’ve burned through the weekend social calendar (or what passes for it during lockdown) and the cooking energy is more deliberate than enthusiastic.

Hot rice base was the standby fluffy jasmine. Always reliable.

Fried egg was the M-style sunny-side standard. Crispy white edges, runny golden yolk. The yolk-break-over-rice ritual.

Stir-fried vegetables today were cabbage shreds with carrot strips, smashed garlic and a splash of soy. Crunchy stems, lightly seasoned. The colour break against the beige rice.

Pan-seared protein was a small portion of sausage rounds today — sliced from a Bratwurst link, hit in its rendered fat, browned on both sides. Crispy casing, juicy inside.

Chilli sauce on the side as always.

We sat at the kitchen table, drank coffee from the V60 dripper, and ate slow. The Sunday energy is the quietest of the week — nothing scheduled, nothing rushing, just the slow assembly of the day around the small ritual of breakfast.

Phase 2 reopening had restored a lot of the city’s pre-pandemic noise — restaurant reservations, weekend mall queues, brunch waitlists. We weren’t in a rush to rejoin any of it. The home Sunday brunch had become genuinely the most enjoyable meal of the week.

Lockdown habits worth keeping after reopening — the home Sunday brunch was high on that list.

Overall: 4.3 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Reliable Sunday brunch — keeping the routine.
